Britain is investing 5 billion pounds in drones and advanced laser weapons.

The United Kingdom has announced an ambitious plan to enhance its defense capabilities by investing 5 billion pounds (equivalent to 7 billion dollars) in developing military drones and advanced laser weapon systems, as part of modernizing its military arsenal and equipping its forces with "future equipment."
British Defense Secretary, John Healey, revealed allocating 4 billion pounds for drones and autonomous systems, while an additional 1 billion pounds will be directed towards developing defensive laser systems to protect British ships and forces, according to the British news agency (PA Media).
This announcement follows the publication of the "Strategic Defense Review," emphasizing the need to focus on modern technology such as artificial intelligence and drones as an "immediate priority" to enhance military readiness.
Healey described this investment as the "most significant advancement in British defense technology for decades," stating that it will enable the armed forces to "face challenges in a rapidly changing world." He added: "We are implementing the defense review's vision to position the United Kingdom at the forefront of innovation within NATO, by supporting local industry and accelerating the provision of soldiers with the latest equipment."
Part of the investment is planned to establish a "drone center" aimed at accelerating the deployment of these technologies across all branches of the British Army, as reported by the German news agency.
This focus on drones comes after they have proven to be highly effective in the Ukrainian war, causing losses surpassing those from traditional artillery, according to field analyses.
