The High Commissioner for the Middle East and North Africa in the International Organization for Human Rights and Refugees, Majid Al-Rukbi, announced the launch of an emergency humanitarian campaign entitled: "Breath - Your Right to Life", in response to the environmental and humanitarian disaster resulting from the forest fires affecting wide areas of the Latakia province on the Syrian coast, posing a direct threat to the health and safety of civilians.

The official website of the International Organization for Human Rights and Refugees, the Middle East Commission, on Facebook stated that the campaign will include: supporting firefighting and rescue teams, assisting affected and displaced families, distributing urgent humanitarian aid, conducting awareness campaigns in threatened areas, and honoring contributors to firefighting efforts.

It was explained that the organization's teams in Syria have been mobilized and a volunteer plan will be announced gradually.

He added: We face an urgent humanitarian need, every “breath” we preserve is a step towards life.

Syria's Civil Defense teams have been continuing their efforts for four days to extinguish the massive fires that broke out simultaneously in several areas in the countryside of Latakia, consuming vast areas of forests. Due to the wide spread of the fires and the difficulty of controlling them, the Turkish government sent two firefighting helicopters yesterday morning, in addition to 11 vehicles including 8 fire trucks and 3 water tanks, to enhance the ongoing extinguishing operations.
