Basra, Iraq Records Highest Temperatures on Earth at 50th Anniversary

The province of Basra recorded the highest temperature in the world over the past 24 hours today, Friday.
According to international meteorological monitoring centers, the temperature in Basra reached 48.2°C, making it close to half a degree below boiling point, amidst a scorching heatwave hitting the country during the current July.
Basra is known as one of the hottest cities in the Middle East and the world during the summer, especially in the months of July and August, with warnings of direct exposure to the sun, and emphasis on the need to take preventive measures to avoid heat strokes and heat stress.
