Fire Suppression Efforts in Latakia Continue for the Eighth Consecutive Day

Firefighting teams and the Syrian Civil Defense continue their intensive efforts to control two dangerous fire outbreaks in northern rural Latakia, after eight days since the fires broke out.

The Operations Room Director and board member of the Syrian Civil Defense, Ahmed Yazigi, stated to "SANA" that rugged terrains and steep slopes pose significant challenges hindering suppression operations, in addition to high temperatures and wind speed fueling fire spread.

Yazigi added that teams are working on opening "new fire lines" and preparing routes to contain fire spread, deploying intensive personnel on all fronts to monitor the situation and prevent fire from spreading to other areas.

He highlighted the significant support provided by Turkey since the initial moments of the fire outbreak, including sending helicopters, jets, and about 20 specialized vehicles, in addition to trained personnel, in coordination with the local Operations Room.

This comes amidst difficult working conditions faced by firefighters, especially in mountainous areas and deep valleys, further complicating the mission and requiring intensified efforts to contain and extinguish the fires.
