The American envoy to Syria: The fatwa prohibiting extrajudicial killing is a great step towards a new Syria.

The US Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barak, praised the fatwa issued by the Higher Council of Fatwa in Syria, which prohibits all forms of extrajudicial killing.


Barak described the ban on all forms of extrajudicial killing as a "great first step" towards building a new Syria.

Barak explained that: "Great initial steps for a new Syrian government moving towards a new Syria," indicating what he considered a shift in the official approach towards respecting the rule of law and human rights.
