The Gaza Strip witnessed painful scenes yesterday, Friday, as displaced people performed the Eid prayer amidst the rubble of a destroyed mosque in the city of Khan Yunis in the south of the Strip, amid the ongoing Israeli war entering its second year, and the absence of sacrificial animals from the Eid rituals.
Despite the scenes of destruction, Palestinians did not cease their calls during the prayer for the world to end the war, emphasizing their determination to perform religious rituals despite daily suffering, amidst widespread destruction and shortages of food and medicine.
In simultaneous battlefield developments, Israeli forces advanced south of Khan Yunis, using intense firepower from tanks and warplanes targeting any movement in the infiltration areas.
The Tuffah neighborhood in eastern Gaza City also witnessed Israeli tank movements amid intense artillery shelling, further exacerbating the plight of the besieged residents.
This comes at a time when the humanitarian crisis in the Strip is worsening due to a decline in the flow of food aid and an increase in hunger rates in many areas.
The United States continues to use its veto power within the Security Council, preventing the issuance of an international resolution to stop the war.
On the humanitarian side, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has resumed distributing food aid after temporarily suspending it following the killing of about 30 people near one of its centers last Tuesday due to Israeli airstrikes.
A temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed in March, followed by ongoing military operations by the Israeli army since May 17, aiming to free hostages and gain full control of the Gaza Strip as part of its commitment to "eliminate Hamas."
