The Syrian Civil Defense participated in the eighth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025), organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 2 to 6, 2025, under the slogan "Every Day Matters, Let's Work for Resilience Today."
During the conference, Dr. Ahmed Qaziz, the Senior Programs Manager at the Syrian Civil Defense, presented a comprehensive overview of the disaster situation in Syria and the efforts of the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management to develop a comprehensive national disaster management plan.
In his intervention, Qaziz emphasized the importance of reducing disaster risks by building policies based on risk assessment, promoting community preparedness, and enhancing innovative financing mechanisms to enhance local resilience capacities and community-led initiatives.
The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is one of the prominent international multi-stakeholder forums, bringing together government representatives, the United Nations system, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to accelerate the implementation of the "Sendai" framework for disaster risk reduction, exchange best practices and knowledge, and discuss progress in this field.
This event provides an important opportunity to shed light on the Syrian reality and build international partnerships to enhance the country's ability to address natural and emergency challenges.
