Republican Congressman Joe Wilson expressed his full support for the step, expressing gratitude to President Donald Trump and the Secretaries of State and Treasury for their initiative in this regard, following the decision of the U.S. Treasury Department to suspend a portion of the sanctions imposed on Syria under the Caesar Act.

Wilson tweeted on the "X" platform, saying: "Grateful to President Trump, Secretary Mnuchin, and Secretary Pompeo for leading the way in lifting sanctions on Syria!".

Wilson added: "I hope the Department of Commerce will also lift export restrictions. American infrastructure and communications should be the ones to rebuild Syria, not China!".

He concluded his tweet by reaffirming his confidence in President Trump's policies, writing: "I told you Trump would fix it!".

The decision of the Treasury Department, issued on Friday, May 23, 2025, through General License No. GL 25, included the suspension of several economic sanctions in vital sectors such as infrastructure, transportation, energy, and essential services, paving the way for a broader economic recovery in Syria.
