Joana Sanz, the wife of Brazilian star Dani Alves, responded to the news of Barcelona's former star being acquitted of rape charges after his four-year prison sentence was upheld. Alves was convicted of sexual assault by three judges in February last year following a three-day trial. Public prosecutors appealed for a nine-year sentence, while the girl's lawyer sought a 12-year sentence. The Catalonia Supreme Court rejected the appeal on Friday and acquitted Alves of the crime he was convicted of last year. Alves separated from his wife Sanz during the trial, although they are not officially divorced. Sanz initially supported her husband before their relationship deteriorated. Sanz posted a lengthy message on her Instagram account in response to Alves' release, saying, "I have been accused, insulted, threatened, and persecuted for two years, as if I were the one standing in the dock." She continued, "Despite all this media and public damage, I remain strong, not losing my job as many wished, true to my beliefs, defending my opinion without being poisoned by others." She concluded, "I urge you to stop pouring your hatred on those you do not know, and to educate and inform yourselves."
