Horrific Crime: Tunisian Man Gouges Out Wife's Eyes with a Fork

A Tunisian woman lost her sight completely after her husband gouged out her eyes at the request of a sorcerer who claimed there was a buried treasure under their house, in a crime that shocked Tunisians.
Local media outlets circulated details of the horrific crime that took place in the Sbikha delegation in the governorate of Kairouan in central Tunisia, in search of an alleged treasure.
In the mentioned details, the sorcerer who came from the capital to Kairouan to find the alleged treasure with members of the perpetrator's family claimed the existence of a curse that prevented its discovery, requiring the sacrifice of two eyes to break the curse.
The victim's father told Radio Jawhara that his daughter (29 years old), when she refused to comply with her husband's request, he lured her into the house for reconciliation and after dinner, he began to beat her and forcibly gouged out her eyes using a fork, then carried them in a plastic bag to the sorcerer and left his wife drowning in blood.
The victim is hospitalized at a university hospital in the governorate of Sousse to receive treatment after suffering severe bleeding, losing her sight, as well as having a broken neck and a psychological breakdown.
The security forces arrested the husband who confessed to his crime, as reported by the radio.
There are no accurate statistics on the number of sorcerers in Tunisia, but a study published a decade ago indicates that there are approximately 145,000 sorcerers.
Since last April, members of parliament have referred a proposal for a law criminalizing magic and sorcery to the legislative committee, but it has not been discussed yet.
