The Sheikh Zayed Book Award at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center has announced its shortlists in various categories, including outstanding works from around the world. The competition included 4,000 literary works from 75 countries, including 20 Arab countries and 55 foreign countries.
* The Literature category witnessed tough competition among three prominent works:
“Abu Al-Hawl” by the Egyptian writer Ahmed Murad.
“The Trilogy of Voyages of the City of Clay” by the Kuwaiti novelist Saud Al-Sanousi.
“Hind or The Most Beautiful Woman in the World” by the Lebanese-French writer Hoda Barakat.
* Children's Literature shone with three innovative works:
“Mimouna and Her Crazy Ideas!” by the Jordanian writer Shereen Spanak.
“The Shadow of Sabiba” by the Moroccan novelist Latifa Labssir.
“The Digital Fox” by the Egyptian writer Hegra El-Sawi.
* In the Translation category, three valuable translations are competing:
“One Thousand and One Nights: The Book of Love” translated by Claudia Ott.
“Harushiyyush” translated by Marco De Branco.
“The Devil of Theory: Literature and Common Sense” translated by Hassan Al-Talib.
* Arts and Critical Studies include three brilliant intellectual works:
“Food and Speech: Rhetorical Excavations in Arab Heritage” by Dr. Saeed Al-Awadi.
“Poetry and Prophecy: Abu Al-Tayyib Al-Mutanabbi in Poetry” by Dr. Rita Awad.
“Samarra Al-Imaraniyya: A Reading in Abbasid Contemporary Architecture” by Dr. Khaled Al-Sultani.
* The Development and State Building category showcases academic impact through works such as:
“The Right to Strive and Effort: Foundational Approaches to the Rights of Muslim Women” by Dr. Mohammed Bishari.
“In the Philosophy of Recognition and Identity Policies: Critique of the Cultural Approach to Islamic Arab Culture” by Hussam Al-Din Darwish.
“Cities and Trade in Arab and Islamic Civilization” by Dr. Majd Al-Din Khamesh.
* Other languages reveal works that document Arab culture in various languages:
“Arab Literary Culture in Southeast Asia” by Andrew Pickock.
“The Rise of Arab Books” by Beatrice Grundler.
“History of Eastern Ghazal” by Hakan Ozcakan.
* In Manuscript Studies, three research projects stand out:
“News of Women” by Rashid Al-Khayoun.
“Explanation of Suspended Poems” by Saleh Al-Jassar.
“The Moving Planets in the Order of Visit” by Dr. Ahmed Jumaa Abdel-Hamid.
* The “Young Author” and “Publishing and Cultural Technologies” categories have been suspended for this year.
It is worth noting that the 19th edition of the award received over 4,000 nominations from 75 countries, reflecting the global status of this prestigious award, which continues to enhance its cultural presence and expand its reach worldwide.
