Vietnam Competes with China and Gains Ground in the US Market

The United States' import share from China dropped to 7.1% in May, the lowest level since 2001, according to trade data released by the US Census Bureau on Thursday. This represents a decrease of 4.3 percentage points compared to the same period last year and is part of a long-term downward trend that began during President Donald Trump's first term.

The share of goods imported by the United States from China recently peaked at 14.8% in September 2024, before Trump returned to the presidency and imposed significant new tariffs on goods imported from China.
