The UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, said today, Monday, that the transitional phase in Syria witnessed a violent escalation and a significant increase in the number of casualties, creating more risks of fragmentation.
Pedersen added, "It is clear that there is a need for some major corrections in the security and political transition path".
Pedersen pointed out that Syrians are shocked by the events in Suwayda and the unacceptable foreign intervention.
The UN envoy also condemned the violations against civilians and fighters in Suwayda, stating, "We condemn the Israeli airstrikes on Suwayda and Damascus".
Pedersen expressed his concern over reports of the abduction of Druze women and the disappearance of civilians after the entry of security forces into certain areas, and in light of reports of missing women, children, and men.
