Deputy UN envoy to Syria, Najat Rochdi, warned today of the suspension of US food aid to Syria, which threatens devastating humanitarian consequences, urging the international community to act now as Syrian lives are at stake. Rochdi stated on her "X" platform account: "The World Food Programme warns that this could be a death sentence for millions already facing severe hunger, with nearly one and a half million Syrians still recovering from over a decade of conflict and ongoing instability now facing the risk of losing essential food aid." Additionally, she explained that cutting life-saving food support for over 50,000 women and children threatens their health, recovery, and survival. She emphasized: "It's not just a humanitarian crisis, it's a blow that undermines the stability of an already fragile region, at a time when Syrians need global solidarity more than ever." Rochdi warned of the repercussions of suspending this aid, which would deepen suffering and fuel instability, adding: "The international community must act now. Syrian lives are at stake."
