The Prime Minister of the Syrian Interim Government, Ahmed Al-Shar'a, received a phone call today, Monday, April 7, from the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, who congratulated him on forming the new government, expressing his wishes for Syria and its people for more stability, progress, and prosperity.
During the call, Ibrahim expressed Malaysia's interest in enhancing bilateral relations with Syria, affirming his country's efforts to open new avenues of cooperation, especially in economic and developmental fields.
Ibrahim also announced Malaysia's readiness to support reconstruction efforts in Syria by encouraging Malaysian companies to invest in energy, agriculture, education, and technology sectors.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between the private sectors of both countries, increasing trade exchange, as well as supporting cultural and scientific cooperation to deepen the bonds between the two peoples.
The Malaysian Prime Minister also extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Al-Shar'a to visit Malaysia at the earliest opportunity to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Al-Shar'a, in turn, expressed his gratitude for Malaysian support, confirming Syria's commitment to expanding its relations with friendly nations and engaging in regional and international partnerships to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people towards a better future.
It is worth mentioning that Malaysia closed its embassy in Damascus in 2012 due to security events, but has maintained its diplomatic relations with Syria until the present time.
