Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, announced his intention to make an official visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus, in the near future. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet with the head of the Syrian transitional government, Ahmed Al-Shar'a, along with a delegation comprising high-level officials from various ministries and security sectors. Mikati emphasized that the visit will involve discussions on various pending issues between the two countries, as well as follow-up on the outcomes of the recent meeting between the Lebanese and Syrian defense ministers in Jeddah. He considered joint coordination in security, political, and economic fields to be of utmost importance in enhancing common interests. In a related context, Prime Minister Mikati had a phone call with President Al-Shar'a, congratulating him on the occasion of the holiday and the formation of the new Syrian government. He expressed wishes for Syria and its people to achieve further stability and prosperity. The two parties discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields to serve the interests of both brotherly nations. President Michel Aoun of Lebanon expressed optimism about the recent positive developments in relations with Syria, affirming Lebanon's determination to take practical steps to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in issues related to border demarcation, transit, and other common matters. He also expressed hope in leveraging available opportunities to enhance cooperation with the Arab world for the benefit of Lebanon. The Syrian Presidency, in a statement, mentioned that President Ahmed Al-Shar'a received a call from his Lebanese counterpart, discussing holiday greetings, the formation of the new government, and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields. Mikati expressed his anticipation that the new Syrian government would contribute to advancing progress and stability, as well as strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
