Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned European NATO member countries today, Tuesday, that they could face an attack from Russia if Moscow does not suffer defeat in Ukraine.
He called on those countries to respond to American calls to agree on a new massive spending goal for the alliance during the summit scheduled in The Hague.
Zelensky said at a defense event on the sidelines of the summit: "Russia intends to launch new military operations on NATO territories, your countries". These comments came hours after at least 11 people were killed in southeastern Ukraine by Russian missiles.
He added: "There is no doubt that we must stop Putin now, especially in Ukraine. But we must realize that his goals go beyond Ukraine. European countries must increase their defense spending".
The two-day meeting aims to send a signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that NATO is united and determined to strengthen its defenses and deter any attack from Moscow despite the previous criticisms of former US President Donald Trump of the military alliance.
