Spanish coach Xabi Alonso said on Monday that he is embarking on a new era with Real Madrid after taking over the team's coaching responsibilities. Alonso looks forward to bridging his history with the Spanish club and a new era of dominance. Speaking at his media presentation today, Alonso said, "It's a very special day, one I will remember forever. I feel like I've returned home, and I'm happy to be here." He added, "My connection with Real Madrid has never been broken, and that feeling has been renewed." Alonso continued, "I feel like this is the beginning of a new era. We have a great team, great players, and huge potential. This has given me a great drive to come here with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We have a strong belief in our ability to achieve important accomplishments, befitting Real Madrid and these European trophies." Alonso will succeed the former Bayer Leverkusen coach, the veteran Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, who moved on to lead the Brazilian national team. Alonso will begin his journey on the first of June in preparation for the FIFA Club World Cup, which will kick off in the middle of next month in the United States. Alonso was a player under Ancelotti's guidance at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
