Syria Participates in the Global Connectivity Forum for Transport 2025 in Istanbul

The participation of the authority was within the high-level strategic session titled 'Emerging Challenges to Global Connectivity,' which discussed the geopolitical and environmental transformations facing the transport sector, especially vital maritime corridors, and the available opportunities to enhance regional and international cooperation.
Dr. Qutaiba Naji, Assistant President of the General Authority for Syrian Land and Maritime Ports for Foreign Affairs, delivered a speech on behalf of Syria in front of government representatives, international organizations, and the private sector, during which he reviewed the transformations that Syria has been undergoing after fourteen years of war and sanctions. He highlighted the efforts made to rebuild and rehabilitate vital ports and terminals, connecting them to the regional and international transport system.
Naji also emphasized that Syria is no longer a burden but represents a strategic opportunity as a connection point between Asia, Europe, and Africa, enjoying a unique geographical location on the Mediterranean coast.
He stressed that reconnecting Syria to international maritime corridors has become an urgent necessity in light of the increasing threats to the security and smooth operation of global supply chains.
Naji called for the establishment of regional cooperation mechanisms to protect maritime corridors and joint investment in low-emission smart ports, as well as expanding partnerships between governments, financial institutions, and the private sector, while confirming Syria's full readiness to actively engage in these efforts.
It is worth mentioning that the forum witnessed broad participation from transport ministers, high-level representatives from international and regional organizations, major financial institutions, along with experts and leaders from the private sector, and discussed more than 20 topics, including physical and digital connectivity, transitioning to green transport, maritime security, and investment in smart infrastructure.
