The Odessa region in southern Ukraine experienced a violent night following a Russian drone attack targeting vital facilities, resulting in a power outage affecting more than 29,000 subscribers this Sunday morning.
Odessa region governor Oleh Kiper confirmed that the attack caused significant damage to one of the power facilities located near the city of Odessa, noting that the city of Chornomorsk, located on the outskirts of Odessa, was the most affected.
The shelling caused destruction to residential homes and administrative buildings, resulting in at least one civilian injury.
Kiper explained via his account on the "Telegram" app that "the vital infrastructure is currently operating on electric generators" while repair work continues, with no comment from the Russian side so far.
In the same context, DTEK, the largest private electricity producer in Ukraine, announced that the attack targeted four power facilities in the Odessa region, confirming that the damage is severe and hinders the energy supply to the area.
In contrast, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it repelled a Ukrainian air attack using drones.
It stated in a message via "Telegram" that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 21 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 11 drones over the Volgograd region in southern Russia, while the other drones were shot down over the Rostov, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions in the southwest of the country.
It is worth mentioning that Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure since the beginning of its full-scale invasion 42 months ago, in an ongoing war that has caused widespread destruction and significant human and material losses across Ukraine.
