The Acting U.S. Ambassador, Dorothy Shea, expressed her expectation of holding Syrian officials accountable for the recent acts of violence in Syria, affirming that Washington will not turn a blind eye to these actions.

The Ambassador's statement was made through a post published by the U.S. Embassy in Damascus on its official Facebook page, where she stated: "We expect all perpetrators of recent acts of violence, especially those in leadership positions or with prominent status, to be held accountable."

Shea added that this accountability will send "a clear message to all Syrians that no one is above the law in the new Syria."

The U.S. Department of State had earlier condemned the recent violence in Syria, describing it as "unacceptable."

This security tension arose following intense clashes in the towns of Jaramana and Sahneya in the countryside of Damascus between security forces and armed individuals described by Syrian authorities as "outlaws," resulting in casualties.

In an attempt to contain the crisis, a "preliminary" agreement was reached to cease fire in the two areas during a session held in the capital Damascus, attended by the governors of Damascus countryside, Sweida, and Quneitra, as well as several dignitaries and social figures.
