US State Department Spokesperson: President Donald Trump will issue executive orders to lift sanctions on Syria.

The Syrian news agency "Al-Ikhbariya" reported today, Sunday, Mitchell's clarification that the Trump administration has recognized the suffering caused by the sanctions imposed on Syria and acknowledged that it is time to lift them. He pointed out that lifting these sanctions provides the Syrian people with an opportunity for a better future and represents the first step towards stronger and better relations between the United States and Syria.
Mitchell added: "There is no specific timeline for lifting the sanctions because there are some legal and administrative procedures ahead of us. Some of these sanctions were imposed as executive measures, which will be easier, but there are sanctions issued by Congress, which require its approval after additional administrative procedures. Congress has its own procedures that differ from the executive authority of President Trump."
The US State Department spokesperson emphasized that what is happening in Syria concerns everyone, as it is an important country. It is logical for Washington to engage in dialogue with all its regional partners to assist Syria, as its people are suffering and in need of aid. Lifting the sanctions in this context is an opportunity to strengthen security and stability.
Mitchell confirmed that the United States seeks friendly relations with all countries in the world, as it had an embassy in Damascus for many years before its closure in 2012, clarifying that reopening it is Washington's ultimate goal.
