One of the most important statements made by the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Syria, "Gonzalo Vargas Yousa":
According to him, the number of refugees returning to Syria since the fall of the former regime has reached 270,000, and many are planning to return in the coming year.
He also added that according to the latest regional survey we conducted on the intention to return, more than a quarter of Syrian refugees intend to return to their homeland to rebuild their lives in the next twelve months.
"Gonzalo" identified the main obstacles to return, stating that they include concerns about housing and available properties, safety, access to basic services, and economic challenges.
He further mentioned that over 60% of refugees have a desire to visit Syria before making a final decision to return, and refugees willing to return need assistance with transportation and financial aid.
