US President Donald Trump said today, Friday, that he has spoken with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping many times, but did not mention when they last spoke or the topics they discussed.
In response to a question about whether he had spoken with Xi after announcing his tariff plan, he told reporters, "I don't want to comment on that, but I have spoken to him many times."
Trump made these comments following the publication of an interview with Time magazine in which he said that the Chinese president had called him.
In response to this, Trump said he will provide more details "at the appropriate time."
Trump mentioned in the interview that his administration is in talks with China to reach an agreement on tariffs.
