Palestinian-Syrians Treated as 'Foreigners' Spark Controversy, Government Intervenes for Correction

Recently, documents issued by the civil registry offices in Syria have sparked widespread controversy for showing the registration of Palestinian-Syrian citizens as 'foreigners', contrary to what has been practiced for many years in Syria, before the Syrian government confirmed it was a technical error.
According to documents published by 'Zaman Al Wasl' newspaper, the civil registry office in Douma city, along with other civil registries in Syrian cities, recorded Palestinian-Syrian citizens as 'Palestinian Resident - Province: Foreigners' instead of 'Palestinian-Syrian'.
The move has angered Palestinian-Syrians, as per comments on social media, due to what they considered a 'change in the legal status of Palestinians in Syria', calling for a general conference attended by government officials to discuss the legal, administrative, and social affairs of Palestinian-Syrians.
According to the newspaper, Ghayath Dabour, a lawyer and human rights activist, confirmed that the recent actions in the civil registry offices were 'just a technical error' with no political or social implications after contacting the relevant authorities in the Syrian government.
