The U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barak, stated via "X" platform: "Today, I met with Syrian President Ahmed Shar'a and Foreign Minister As'ad al-Shaibani in Istanbul to implement President Trump's bold decision to provide a path for peace and prosperity in Syria."

Barak added: "President Shar'a praised the swift actions taken by America to lift sanctions, welcoming Secretary of State Pompeo's historic announcement yesterday to suspend Caesar Act sanctions for 180 days, and the U.S. Treasury Department's issuance of General License No. 25 and other measures to ease sanctions."

He continued: "I reiterated the U.S. support for the Syrian people after years of conflict and violence, echoing Secretary Pompeo's stance that without our swift and decisive action to lift sanctions, our regional partners wouldn't have been able to provide financing, supplies, and energy to alleviate the suffering and shocks of the Syrian people."

Barak confirmed that President Trump's goal is to enable the new government to create conditions that allow the Syrian people not only to survive but also to thrive.

He continued: "We affirmed our commitment to continue these important discussions and work together to develop private sector investments in Syria to rebuild the economy through investments from regional and global partners such as Turkey, Gulf countries, Europe, and the United States."

Barak concluded by saying: "This meeting was historic, as the issue of sanctions, as President Trump emphasized, is now completely behind us, resulting in a shared commitment between our countries to swiftly move forward in investment, development, and global marketing of a new Syria, welcomed and free from sanctions."

This came after Barak's meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Shar'a and Foreign Minister As'ad al-Shaibani on the sidelines of Shar'a's visit to Istanbul today, Saturday.
