The United Nations welcomes the decision to lift sanctions on Syria.

The United Nations has welcomed the decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, considering this step as a new opportunity for reconstruction and achieving stability in the country.
This was stated in a joint statement issued by Adam Abdel-Moula, the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, and Ramtan Palakrishnan, the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Syria crisis.
The statement emphasized that "this decision, if implemented, holds real potential to alleviate the suffering of millions of Syrians, and opens tangible prospects to enhance the delivery of humanitarian aid and accelerate early recovery efforts."
It also pointed out that "the sanctions imposed on Syria in recent years have hindered humanitarian response and impeded early recovery efforts," expecting that lifting them will lead to "expanding access to life-saving aid, speeding up the rehabilitation of vital infrastructure, and creating a conducive environment for responsible investment in basic services and livelihoods."
The statement stressed the need for "translating these developments into tangible improvements in the lives of all Syrians," calling for "continuous efforts to ensure that the benefits of lifting sanctions directly and fairly benefit the affected communities across the country."
The United Nations reaffirmed its "strong commitment to supporting the Syrian people through principled humanitarian action and comprehensive recovery efforts, in close coordination with all partners," and urged the international community to "seize this opportunity to increase funding for humanitarian response and recovery in Syria quickly and sustainably to meet evolving needs."
The statement concluded by stating that lifting the sanctions "represents a renewed opportunity to help Syrians rebuild their lives safely and with dignity, and progress towards the peace, stability, and future they rightfully deserve," affirming the readiness of the international organization to work with all parties to ensure that this transformation becomes "a pivotal moment contributing to achieving long-term stability and sustainable peace."
