The UN Security Council today, Monday, adopted a resolution unanimously renewing the mandate of the United Nations force for monitoring the disengagement of forces in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, known as UNDOF, for a period of 6 months.
The UN News website reported that the 15 Council members voted in favor of the extension of UNDOF, under resolution number 2782, at today's meeting.
UNDOF was established on May 31, 1974, and since then, the forces have continued their work in the region to oversee the implementation of the disengagement agreement.
Last week, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, reiterated that the force "continues to play a vital role and makes every effort to de-escalate conflicts".
