The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdel-Moula, announced the allocation of $625,000 to support urgent response efforts for people affected by forest fires in rural Latakia.

Abdel-Moula said in a statement on Thursday, "This funding will enable humanitarian partners – including the Syrian Arab Red Crescent – to provide urgent assistance to thousands of people affected by the fires."

Abdel-Moula added, "The forest fires have had severe consequences on local communities, requiring our immediate attention. We stand in solidarity with the Syrian people in this emergency situation and will continue to do everything we can to support our partners in responding to those in urgent need of assistance."

Yesterday, the United Nations announced that its teams are participating in humanitarian response efforts, in cooperation with the Syrian authorities, to assess the effects of the fires raging in rural Latakia, while firefighting and civil defense teams continue their intensive efforts to control the fires.
