The Russian ambassador in Ankara warns of the threat to Syria's unity and confirms Moscow's readiness to support stability.

The Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Alexei Yerkhov, warned of the risks threatening Syrian unity, emphasizing that his country is ready to contribute to achieving the necessary internal stability to restore normalcy in Syria.

This came during statements he made to Turkish media on Tuesday, May 6, where he stressed that "without achieving this stability, it will be impossible to restore normal life in Syria."

Yerkhov explained that the situation in Syria is "extremely complex, and it cannot be said to be improving," pointing out Israeli expansion in the south of the country, stating: "Israel has extended its control over new areas in southern Syria, as is known. In addition, Israel is bombing military sites belonging to the Syrian Arab Republic, which were under the control of Bashar al-Assad and his army."

The Russian diplomat also highlighted the escalating sectarian tensions in several areas of Syria, including the Syrian coast, where the provinces of Latakia, Tartus, and Homs have recently witnessed tensions, in addition to clashes in Druze areas in the south.

Yerkhov described the situation as "an internal division that may worsen in the future," calling for "ensuring the stability of the internal political situation in Syria and ensuring the non-repetition of bloody clashes like those that occurred on the Syrian coast."

Yerkhov emphasized the importance of working on rebuilding Syrian infrastructure, economy, and social sector, considering it a crucial factor in achieving the desired stability.
