According to "SANA," the Director of the General Establishment for Electricity Generation, Engineer Omar Al-Brijawi, explained that two months ago, with the help of local staff, the rehabilitation of the fourth steam unit in Baniyas began. The rehabilitation is expected to be completed within two and a half months, adding around 150 megawatts to the grid. Work is also ongoing on the first steam unit at the Maharda station, expected to be completed in 8 months, contributing another 150 megawatts to the electrical grid. Al-Brijawi mentioned that three maintenance projects are currently underway: maintenance of the third steam unit at the Zara power station, maintenance of the fifth steam unit at the Aleppo power station, and maintenance of the second gas unit at the Naseeriya power station. He stated, "We can generate 5000 megawatts when petroleum products are available, but the actual capacity generated is around 1700 megawatts due to a significant shortage of natural gas and heavy fuel." He added, "We need 23 million cubic meters of gas, with only 6 million currently available, and we require 7000 tons of heavy fuel, of which only 3000 tons are currently available." Regarding the institution's future plans, Al-Brijawi explained that three plans have been developed to enhance the institution's operations and increase the production capacity of power stations. These plans include securing the necessary petroleum products to operate the ready-to-use generation units, completing the Latakia power station project with a capacity of 526 megawatts, completing the second block at the Deir Ali power station with a capacity of 750 megawatts, and rehabilitating the Aleppo power station with a capacity of 600 megawatts. As for the third plan, it involves expanding the construction of new power stations to enhance the production capacity of power stations and meet the demand for electrical energy.
