The International Organization for Migration called today for international support to help Syria recover, facilitate the return of Syrians to their country, and build a better future for Syria and its people. The organization's director, IOM's Amy Pope, emphasized the need for significant assistance to rebuild Syrian communities and lives, urging contributions to humanitarian and recovery efforts. IOM has reactivated its data collection capabilities in Syria, with its "Return Communities Index" report being a recent contribution to guide humanitarian and recovery efforts, among others, to shape a better future for Syria and its people. The report assessed conditions in 1,100 areas and neighborhoods where approximately 1.87 million Syrians have already returned, whether internally displaced or returning from abroad. With its re-established presence in Damascus, the organization aims to meet immediate humanitarian needs, support recovery, and create a conducive environment for peaceful, voluntary, and sustainable return operations.
