A security source at the Ministry of Interior stated, "Following the assassination of several police and security personnel by armed groups operating outside the law, large unorganized popular crowds headed to the coast."
The security source added, "The direction of these crowds led to some individual violations, and we are working to stop these transgressions that do not represent the Syrian people as a whole."
Colonel Hassan Abdulghani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said, "We have initiated a wide combing operation in the city of Jableh and its surroundings."
Abdulghani added that "the campaign aims to support the General Security Administration in restoring stability in the city and arresting the lawless groups entrenched there."
Yesterday, Thursday, March 6, witnessed intense clashes in the Syrian coastal cities, following the attack by unlawful groups on a checkpoint of the General Security Administration near the city, targeting the residents' vehicles.
