Today, Saturday, the first meeting of the investigation committee on the events in Sweida was held at the Ministry of Justice headquarters in Damascus, chaired by Minister of Justice Dr. Mazhar al-Wais, who emphasized to the committee members to work according to the fundamental principles of justice that serve all affected individuals, indicating that the results of the work should contribute to public peace and the restoration of security, safety, and stability for all components of the Syrian people.
After the meeting, the committee members held an internal working session, during which Judge Hatem al-Nassan was elected as president, and lawyer Ammar Azeddin was appointed as the official media spokesperson. A permanent headquarters for the committee was designated within the Ministry of Justice, and two phone lines were opened for communication with the residents of Sweida to receive complaints, supervised by Judge Maysoun al-Tall and lawyer Ammar Azeddin, who will announce the numbers soon to ensure everyone's participation and justice for the victims.
In a statement to "SANA", the committee president Judge Hatem al-Nassan said: "Investigations will begin immediately by meeting with officials in the provinces of Sweida and Daraa and the affected residents," pointing out that the work will be divided into groups based on the members' expertise in investigations, confirming that the goal of the committee is to uncover the complete truth and identify those responsible for the painful events as a basis for achieving social peace, while working with full powers and transparency.
The Ministry of Justice had announced last Thursday the formation of a committee to investigate the recent events in Sweida, based on the provisions of the Judicial Authority Law issued by Legislative Decree No. 98 of 1961 and its amendments, and the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 9 of 2025, and the directives of the Presidency of the Republic to commit to uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability, and the requirements of national interest.
