The Faculty of Dentistry at Damascus University has obtained European accreditation under the "LEADER" program offered by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE), making it the only Syrian university to join this prestigious program.
This accreditation followed a comprehensive evaluation that began with the college's registration in the program last year, followed by the preparation of the self-study file in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Center at Damascus University. The university statement emphasized that the process included full support to improve infrastructure and provide the necessary resources and documents.
The evaluation phase was conducted online between March 19 and 23, including a series of meetings with the college administration, faculty members, and students from the first and second stages. The coordination was overseen by Dr. Amira Al-Nour (Director of the Quality Center at Damascus University) and Professor Maria van Harten (European representative).
The evaluation resulted in the college's acceptance into the program with improvement recommendations, taking into account the exceptional circumstances in Syria. The program extends over five years, with periodic monitoring by the European Association to enhance the quality of education, aiming for the college to achieve "excellence" in dental education by the end of the period.
The college, in its statement, pledged to work on developing educational and administrative processes, enhancing the efficiency of the teaching staff, improving educational outcomes, and enhancing the reputation of its graduates, contributing to supporting the position of Syrian medical education.
It is worth noting that the "LEADER" program is one of the prominent European programs supporting the development of dental colleges according to international quality standards.
