Prince Karim Al-Husayni was born on December 13, 1936, and assumed the position of the forty-ninth Imam of the Ismaili Nizari community on July 11, 1957, succeeding his grandfather Aga Khan III. Throughout his journey, he became one of the most prominent religious and economic figures globally.
In addition to his spiritual role, Aga Khan was a prominent businessman and the founder of Aga Khan Development Network, one of the largest private development networks globally. Through this institution, he worked on combating poverty, enhancing education, improving healthcare services, supporting religious pluralism, and preserving architectural and cultural heritage.
The late leader held British and Portuguese nationalities and was known for his passion for equestrian sports and horse racing. He was also the first religious leader to address a joint session of the Canadian Parliament on February 27, 2017, in a historic move reflecting his global stature.
With his passing, Aga Khan IV leaves behind a rich legacy of humanitarian and developmental work, a journey filled with generosity and global impact.
