Syrian prisoners of conscience in Roumieh prison suspend their hunger strike.

Syrian prisoners of conscience in Roumieh prison in Lebanon have announced the suspension of their hunger strike starting Friday, February 28, 2025, after the strike lasted for 18 days.
The announcement came after a delegation from the Syrian Arab Republic embassy visited Roumieh prison and met with the detainees, informing them that the Syrian government is interested in addressing their case with the Lebanese authorities, and that the matter is under follow-up in the coming days. The detainees stated that things are positive and the Syrian government is cooperating with their demands.
In a statement issued by the detainees, they pointed out that the suspension of the strike came after continuous pressure and intensive contacts with several parties, in addition to promises to vigorously and swiftly pursue their case. They reiterated that their only demand is to return to their homeland, Syria, for which they have struggled and sacrificed, indicating that they will closely monitor the situation and are prepared to resume the strike if the procedures are not followed quickly or if the need arises to resume the strike.
The Syrian detainees expressed their gratitude to all those who interacted and showed solidarity with their cause during this period, especially thanking the team of the campaign "Save Syrian Detainees in Lebanon," in addition to the management of Roumieh prison, which treated them humanely.
The prisoners had staged their hunger strike to protest the conditions of their detention and to demand to be handed over to the new Syrian government.
