The Syrian Finance Minister, Mohammed Issam Bernia, issued a circular today, Sunday, specifying the minimum income exempt from income tax on salaries and wages, after the recent increase, at an amount of 837 thousand lira.
Bernia explained in a statement to the SANA agency that the minimum salary exempt from tax has been raised from 279 thousand Syrian lira to 837 thousand Syrian lira, meaning salaries below 837 thousand lira are completely exempt from tax.
Minister Bernia emphasized that this only applies to salaries to be paid until the end of the current year, as thereafter, with the start of 2026, the new tax law under preparation will come into effect, which will likely have larger and broader exemptions.
