Syrian Finance Minister: Introducing Regulation for Five New Financial Professions

The minister Bernia was quoted by SANA as saying that, as the head of the Board of Accountancy and Audit, the proposal to introduce regulation for five new financial professions was suggested, which are "Financial Controller, Tax Consultant, Internal Auditor, Risk Manager in Financial Institutions, and Financial Analyst", with the council members supporting these proposals.
The Finance Minister pointed out that holders of the mentioned professions must obtain prior licensing in Syria according to specific standards, and suitable professional exams in line with international standards governing these professions, to ensure the availability of necessary knowledge and experience.
Minister Bernia confirmed that a task force has been formed comprising experts from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Syria, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Insurance Supervisory Authority, the Association of Chartered Accountants, and other specialists to develop the executive procedures for regulating and enhancing these professions and licensing them properly, in accordance with existing regulations.
The minister also stated that there will be a review of the existing licensing procedures for chartered accountants, including revising and improving the licensing exams, and focusing on continuous professional training.
Minister Bernia viewed these steps as highly important for developing financial professions, enhancing them, improving financial oversight, and enhancing risk management in the financial sector in Syria.
