The Syrian Energy Minister, Mohammed Al-Bashir, received on Monday a delegation from UNICEF, in the presence of the Minister's assistant for water resources affairs, led by the organization's representative in Syria, Mertixell Relaño Arana.
The two parties discussed cooperation mechanisms in the areas of community awareness, consumption rationalization, and improving resource management, in light of the increasing challenges facing the water sector in Syria due to climate change, population pressures, funding shortages, and war-related damages.
Minister Al-Bashir emphasized the importance of partnership with UNICEF to support the government's efforts in securing water and enhancing its efficiency, stressing the need to intensify awareness campaigns, especially in resource-poor areas.
Relaño praised the government's steps to reform water sector management and expressed the organization's readiness to provide technical and logistical support for implementing joint projects and expanding initiatives aimed at promoting awareness of sustainable water use.
During the meeting, projects to improve infrastructure were reviewed, highlighting the importance of coordination to ensure implementation effectiveness.
