Syrian-Jordanian Agreement to Increase Gas Supply and Provide Electricity to Syria

In a new step to enhance cooperation between Syria and Jordan in the energy sector, Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad Al-Bashir announced an agreement with the Jordanian side to increase the quantities of natural gas sent to Syria through Jordanian territories, supporting the needs of the Syrian energy sector thirsty for support.
This came during a joint press conference held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, in the presence of Jordanian Energy Minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh and Jordanian Water Minister Raed Abu Al-Saud. It was revealed that a grant provided by the World Bank to rehabilitate the electricity interconnection line between the two countries, paving the way to supply Syria with Jordanian electricity in the future.
Minister Al-Bashir explained that the discussions covered vital files, including the gas, electricity, and water sectors, indicating the formation of joint technical committees to study water agreements, including the Yarmouk Basin Agreement, in the context of seeking to regulate the use of water resources between the two countries.
The Syrian Minister also mentioned meetings with Jordanian companies operating in the renewable energy sector to explore opportunities to transfer Jordanian expertise to Syria and discuss the possibility of joint investment in this promising sector, given Syria's need to develop its energy infrastructure after years of challenges.
For his part, Jordanian Minister Saleh Al-Kharabsheh affirmed that Jordan is ready to provide all its capabilities to Syria in the energy sector, explaining that a work plan has been prepared to discuss areas of cooperation between the two parties.
He indicated that Syria will rehabilitate the Syrian part of the electricity interconnection line with Jordan in preparation to start supplying it with electricity.
This move comes at a time when regional and international efforts are being made to rehabilitate the infrastructure in Syria, as both countries look to expand economic cooperation and exchange expertise for the benefit of their peoples.
