Syrian General Security prohibits security personnel from wearing "niqab" in Damascus.

The Executive Central of the General Security Administration in Damascus has issued a decision to permanently ban all its security personnel from wearing masks, according to an internal memo from the General Security, in response to multiple complaints from citizens, aiming to enhance security and transparency in the interaction between security personnel and civilians.
"Al-Araby Al-Jadeed" website quoted sources stating that this measure primarily aims to enable citizens to identify the identity of security personnel they directly deal with, reducing civilians' concerns about potential identity theft, and strengthening trust between citizens and official security authorities.
The decision came after repeated complaints from various popular sectors, related to the difficulty of identifying masked security personnel who may commit violations, as well as the use of masks by individuals not part of the security forces to commit offenses and violations, taking advantage of civilians' inability to recognize them.
