Syrian Central Bank Governor: Syria is facing a historic moment returning to a free market economy

The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulkader Husrieh, said today, Sunday, that we are facing a historic moment in which Syria is returning to a free market economy.

In a statement to the Syrian channel "Al-Ikhbariya", Husrieh added: "Our banking sector has been exhausted for years, and today we have a historic opportunity to improve the financial sector and liberate it from the previous regimes".

He stressed that public banks need support to rid them of the burdens of the past that have turned them into a failed banking system.

He added, saying: "The banking sector is now subject to international norms with exporters and banks, thus ensuring the rights of individuals and ending corruption"
