Syrian actress Slaf Fawakherji denied rumors circulated by some media outlets about her fleeing to France and seeking political asylum, confirming that she currently resides in Egypt after the changes that Syria witnessed following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024.

Her statement came through a lengthy post on her official account on the "X" platform, where she explained that the decision to reside in Egypt was not sudden, but rather delayed "for many years," expressing her gratitude for the support she found there. She wrote: "I live in the safe, beautiful, and blissful Egypt, which has always embraced me as it has embraced everyone who entered it... Egypt, where I arrived as a star from my country, offered me what my country did not, and the love of its people for me was a blessing."

Fawakherji, whose supportive stances towards the Assad regime sparked widespread controversy even after its fall, added that she did not apply for political asylum in any country, describing the claims of seeking asylum in France as "baseless rumors." She commented: "For those who strive and spread rumors in times of gossip and fabricating scenarios... I say to them: Not with rumors! I am not one to use differences for revenge! And who do I seek revenge from? And the end of revenge is nothing but destruction!"

She also called for overcoming differences in this critical stage, emphasizing that focusing on proving "who was right or wrong" will only lead to further fragmentation, saying: "It does not concern me to prove that I am right at the expense of my country... This will only take us from one abyss to another."
