Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min played what is believed to be his last match with the Premier League team in front of 64,773 fans at the World Cup Stadium in the capital Seoul today, Sunday, while his teammate James Maddison left the field injured with a knee injury.
Son, who is 33 years old and whose contract ends in 2026, is expected to leave Tottenham after spending a decade with the club and leading them to their first title in 17 years after defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final last May.
The friendly match today, Sunday, against Newcastle United ended in a 1-1 draw, with Tottenham's Brennan Johnson scoring in the fourth minute and Newcastle's Harvey Barnes equalizing in the 38th minute.
Son was substituted in the 65th minute for Mohammed Kudus, who recently joined the team.
The players from both teams formed a guard of honor for the South Korean player, who received a warm farewell from the crowd as he left the pitch in tears.
