In one of the biggest scandals in the history of mixed martial arts, German fighter Joshua Humberg was disqualified after the World Sports Committee discovered that he had been replaced by his twin brother in the GMC Olympics tournament held on Saturday in Germany.
Joshua, who had won three matches and lost one in his career, managed to reach the final after winning in the semifinals.
However, in a major surprise, his twin brother Jeremias entered the ring in the final and achieved a stunning victory with a high kick to claim the championship title and secure the precious belt.
The head of the German organization, Deniz Haji Abdul Rahman Oglu, revealed the scandal in a video posted on social media, explaining that it was part of a covert cheating plan.
He pointed to a picture of the brothers, saying:
"On the right is Joshua, who participated in the semifinals, and on the left is Jeremias, as if they cannot be told apart."
According to Haji Abdul Rahman Oglu, detecting the manipulation was difficult, if not for different tattoos on each of them, especially the tattoo on Joshua's chest near his heart.
He added that the coach tried to quickly cover up the matter when Joshua entered the ring after his brother's victory wearing a sports shirt with a hood, in an attempt to conceal the switch.
Despite serious attempts to succeed in the trick, the cheating was quickly exposed, leading to the permanent disqualification of the brothers from the tournament.
