Damascus, the capital of Syria, is witnessing tonight one of the coldest nights where temperatures will drop below zero, due to the influence of a severe polar air mass. These harsh conditions will not be limited to Damascus but will extend to most of the Syrian inland provinces, increasing the likelihood of frost formation during the night and Friday morning.
It is also expected that fog will form, especially on international roads between Damascus, Homs, Hama, and Aleppo. Despite the opening of the Damascus-Beirut road by the Lebanese authorities at Dahr al-Baydar, it is strongly advised not to travel due to the difficulty of driving, snow accumulation, and fog.
The region may be affected by a weak state of atmospheric instability tomorrow, Friday, bringing scattered showers to Tartous and other areas. Forecasts indicate the possibility of snowfall in some eastern, northern, and eastern areas of the Damascus countryside and Homs countryside, with a low chance of snow reaching the capital, Damascus.
Furthermore, the region is expected to be affected by a new low-pressure system starting next Sunday, with additional details about this system to be released in the coming days.
