In a strategic move reflecting the deep understanding between Damascus and Amman, Syria and Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the "Higher Coordination Council," with the presence of ministers from both countries. This council aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in vital sectors including energy, water, economy, transportation, industry, trade, health, education, tourism, and information technology, within an ambitious roadmap to support the reconstruction of Syria. The signing took place during an official visit by the Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi to Syria, where he held extensive talks with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad. The meeting emphasized the necessity of establishing and activating joint cooperation to serve the interests of both countries and their fraternal peoples. Safadi emphasized that "Syria's security is Jordan's security," stressing the strength of security and defense cooperation between the two countries in facing challenges, especially in combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling. He also condemned the repeated Israeli interventions and attacks on Syrian territories, describing them as "illegitimate and aimed at sowing discord and chaos in the region." On his part, Minister Mekdad emphasized the importance of Syrian-Jordanian coordination in all fields, especially amidst increasing regional and international challenges, affirming Syria's commitment to enhancing relations with Jordan for the stability and development of the region. The agreement between the two countries marks a pivotal step towards building a sustainable strategic partnership that contributes to enhancing regional security and supporting reconstruction and development efforts in Syria.
