Security campaign in Latakia following the killing of a security member in an armed ambush.

Syrian security forces have launched a wide-ranging security campaign in the city of Latakia following the killing of two members of the Syrian Ministry of Defense in an armed ambush by armed elements of the "Assad regime remnants," as reported by the Syrian state news agency (SANA) on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The agency stated that the Ministry of Defense has deployed military forces in the vicinity of the Da'atour area in Latakia, bringing in armored vehicles and four-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with machine guns to the area as part of an intensive search operation for the militants who attacked an internal security patrol in the city.
Internal security forces were previously attacked by unknown militants near Azhari Square in Latakia, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire. This attack followed the kidnapping of two internal security members by the same armed group, with the bodies of the two members later found having been executed.
SANA quoted a security source as saying: "Remnants of the Assad regime militias killed two members of the Syrian Ministry of Defense through an armed ambush in the Da'atour neighborhood of Latakia."
The source added that "the internal security administration is currently conducting a wide security campaign in the Da'atour neighborhood and several surrounding districts with the aim of arresting the militia remnants and handing them over to justice."
These developments come amid escalating security tensions in the region, with Latakia witnessing an increase in violence and clashes between security forces and armed groups.
In the past two months, groups from the previous regime have carried out four operations in the northwest of the country, resulting in casualties among the military operations administration personnel.
