UNHCR: 17,000 Syrians in Lebanon Express Desire for Voluntary Return

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced today, Tuesday, the operation of the first convoy for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees from Lebanon, in coordination with the General Authority for Land and Maritime Transport in Syria.
The UNHCR spokesperson, Celine Schmitt, confirmed that the number of returnees in this batch is 72 refugees, with some families heading to Homs, while others are heading to areas in the Damascus countryside, including Qatana, Al-Zabadani, Babila, Al-Nashabiyah, and Daraya.
Schmitt explained that the UNHCR provides support to the returning families by providing transportation for them and their belongings, in addition to assistance to meet their basic needs and reintegrate them into their local communities, as reported by SANA news agency.
